Types of Hip & Knee Procedures

Same-Day Joint Replacement
Mr Vanhegan has developed expertise in same-day discharge hip and knee replacements, using an enhanced recovery approach that he pioneered in the UK. For suitable patients this means shorter surgical recovery time without compromising long-term outcomes.

Revision Joint Replacement
Drawing on his fellowship training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore in Oxford, Mr Vanhegan has extensive experience in the complex work of ‘redo’ joint replacement – surgery to replace a worn or problematic previous replacement.

Hip Preservation
Mr Vanhegan is one of a few surgeons in the UK who are fellowship-trained and experioenced in hip preservation surgery – designed to relieve pain, improve function, and prolong the life of your natural hip, potentially delaying or avoiding the need for joint replacement.

Hip & Knee Arthroscopy
Using the latest techniques and technology Mr Vanhegan routinely offers ‘post-less’ traction, which largely eliminates the complications associated with traditional traction methods, like perineal nerve issues, urinary retention, and pressure effects on the skin.

Hip & Knee Osteotomy
For those with hip or leg malalignment or malrotation, Mr Vanhegan offers osteotomy procedures, where bone is carefully cut and realigned to improve joint mechanics, specialising in treating young adults, and high demand patients like athletes and military personel.

Orthopaedic Infections
From his time on the Bone Infection Unit Mr Vanhegan has developed specialist knowledge in the complex, multi-disciplinary area of managing orthopaedic infections . He is a member of his local Bone Infection MDT, and the European Bone & Joint Infection Society.
