  • Complex & Revision Surgery
  • High-Demand Patients

He is a pioneer in the UK of enhanced recovery after joint replacement, with a strong track record in same-day discharge for suitable patients, enabling shorter hospital stays and a faster return to normal life without compromising long-term outcomes.

He is one of only a small number of surgeons in the UK who are fellowship-trained in hip preservation surgery. This includes hip arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) also using ‘post-less’ traction which largely eliminates complications associated with traditional traction methods, osteotomy (bone realignment) at the hip or ankle, and the management of complex conditions such as hip dysplasia, femoroacetabular impingement, malalignment and mal-rotation disorders, hypermobility syndromes (including Ehlers-Danlos syndrome), Perthes’ disease, slipped upper femoral epiphysis, and the long-term effects of other childhood hip disorders.

His approach focuses delaying or avoiding joint replacement where possible, particularly for younger and more active patients.

He also offers soft tissue procedures around the hip and image-guided injections, including corticosteroid and PRP therapy, as part of his comprehensive approach to investigation and management of hip and knee pain.

TESTIMONIALS

What Patients Say

Patients consistently comment on Mr Vanhegan’s professionalism, clarity, and the care they receive throughout treatment.

I was under the care of Mr Vanhegan for both my knee replacements. I would recommend him 100%. He is a lovely man who always put me at ease and listened to any concerns I had. Both operations were straight forward and the care I received at New Hall Hospital was excellent. I am so happy with the results and am now pain free and enjoying life.

Mrs LL

The team at New Hall Hospital have been extremely helpful in my time of need. A deteriorating knee joint required urgent surgery to correct. My first appointment with Mr Vanhegan was a very short time after my application to New Hall and the pros and cons of the procedure were fully explained to both myself and my wife. My overnight stay in hospital was well managed and all involved were kind and considerate and business like. I would not hesitate (and haven’t) to commend New Hall and Mr Vanhegan’s team for similar surgery. Thank you

Mr RB

I have had 2 hip replacements carried out by Mr, Vanhegan. I was lucky to be able to return home on the same day as the surgery on both occasions. Throughout the process, Mr. Vanhegan was an exceptionally caring and effective communicator, putting me at my ease about what was involved. Mr. Vanhegan’s surgical skill transformed my life. He is not only a skilled surgeon, but a friendly and understanding doctor. I am eternally grateful to him for how he has given me the freedom to enjoy these later years of my life.

Mrs VDR

My experience under the care of Mr. Vanhegan and his team was nothing short of exemplary. All my concerns and fears were listened to and addressed and I was given all the information I could possibly need. Both Mr. Vanhegan and the anaesthetist visited me on the ward at the end of the day and the care I received on the ward was second to none. I would like to thank everyone involved in my pre and post care for making me feel like a priority. I have recovered remarkably quickly, am completely pain free and was able to walk my dogs 6 miles a day at just 4 weeks.

I’m not in the slightest bit anxious about having my other hip replacement now, as long as Mr. Vanhegan is in the driving seat.
